Madonna has always been amazing at changing with the times. Her music blatantly shows this with her single ‘Like A Virgin’ from 1984 being the track all young girls were humming (and the cone tits in ‘Vogue’ – come on – that was pretty raunchy for the times!), not to mention her more recent tracks like ’4 minutes’ with Justin Timberlake. ‘MDNA’, however, wipes its butt with her previous albums. It’s a strong album that takes you on a journey of excitement, frustration, love, loss, sadness and then all the way back up again to happiness and spinning around in circles until you want to throw up. It wasn’t until I sat down and listened to the whole album in its entirety that I grew a seemingly ‘new’ fascination with her and her music.
My fave track would have to be ‘Gang Bang’ (it’s not what it sounds like). It is scarily addictive and shows you a side of Madonna I haven’t seen before. It includes some pretty sick drops (dubstep), and psycho lyrics. I found myself listening to it a few times over, and dancing around the room singing “Bang bang, shot you dead” at the top of my lungs. Followed closely by ‘Im Addicted’ which is the track I class as the ‘spin round till you barf’ track. From someone who sincerely believed Madonna was overrated with her last album, that’s a pretty significant change.
Love Madonna or not, you can’t deny that this album is impressive. If you’re looking for a primo ‘get ready for town’ album, this is a good addition to the collection. I take my hat off to her, she has grown with her audience and is creating music that the listener feels they can connect with on numerous levels. I would have to give this album a 6.75/10.
If you want to get your hot little hands on ‘MDNA’, you can! Being released tomorrow (26th March, 2012), I imagine CD shops will be watching copies of it fly out the door.
